Carrollton Homes for Sale

With borders in three different counties, Carrollton, Texas, is a suburban city near Dallas. As with many cities in this area today, Carrollton was officially settled in the mid-19th century. It’s believed that the settlement was named after Carrollton, Illinois, which is where many of the English colony members originated. Four English families were the predominant landowners in the northeastern part of the area: the Furneaux, Morgan, Rowe, and Jackson families. Carrollton was a farming community, with various crops, sheep, and cattle being their primary staple. In 1878, this exclusively agricultural community was fortunate enough to see the Dallas-Wichita Railroad constructed through Trinity Mills, and this boosted its industrial importance significantly. Additionally, in 1880, Jay Gould, a leading railroad developer of the time, extended the railroad to Denton, further raising the small but growing town’s prominence. With a population of around 150 people, Carrollton, Texas, operated a number of cotton gins, flour mills, had two churches and a school. With the coming of the St. Louis Southwestern Railway, the small yet industrious town became a shipping hub for livestock, grain, cotton, and cotton seeds.
